My breaths came fast, each one cutting through my chest as I stuffed Lydia’s clothes into a worn satchel. My hands shook so badly I fumbled with the laces, my vision blurring.
Mary hovered by the doorway, pale and tight-lipped, watching me scatter through the house like a madwoman. “Selene, what is it? What did you smell?”
