“Noo!” I jolted awake in shock, my heart hammering against my ribs, with beads of sweat dripping down my face. The sheets were tangled around my legs,also damp with sweat, and my breathing came in shallow gasps.
The nightmare that had become a part of me, just that the time it felt so vivid and the fire felt real and suffocating, I could still hear the screams, the smell of smoke that never seemed to leave my lungs.
I sat up, clutching my knees to my chest, and tried to steady my breathing.
“God, it’s been six years. Why can’t I let it go?”, I muttered.
