I was still staring at the shattered screen of my phone as I sat at the dining table.
Evelyn pulled out a chair right across me, sitting down.
“I don’t know why Jake trusted you,” I said finally, my hands crossed as I rested against the chair.
“But whatever you have to say, you might as well start speaking.”
She flinched at my tone, but she didn’t look away.
“It wasn’t something I wanted to do to you,” she began, her voice soft, almost pleading.
“I know you don’t believe me, but trust me when I say I didn’t know Andrew was like this.”
