The first thing my torch caught was a house, still standing but abandoned, its windows dark and lifeless.

It looked like a house where the owners had left briefly for a moment, but couldn't get back.

I walked to the sofa, where a blanket lay draped it, it had a table in front of it with a half-eaten bag of Doritos.

My breath hitched.

“Doritos”, I said, smiling.

It was my father’s favorite.

The air felt heavy, thick with dust and cobwebs as I looked round.

I stepped closer, my boots crunching against the floor, and reached for the blanket. It was dusty.
