Emily regarded him with suspicion as she glanced at him. "What do you mean, and how could kidnapping me possibly protect me?" "What do you mean?"
Dmitry inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly as he attempted to collect his thoughts. "Marcus was using you, Emily. He was trying to plant false information in your mind, and he was trying to use you to get to me. I couldn't take that risk. I had to do everything in my power to keep you safe."
When Emily thought about the way Marcus had played with her feelings, she felt a smouldering ember of rage rise up within her. "Why didn't you tell me, Dmitry? Why didn't you just explain things to me?" "Why didn't you just explain things to me?"
Dmitry felt a twinge of remorse as he gazed down at himself. "I was afraid, Emily. I was afraid that you wouldn't understand, that you would never forgive me. I know what I did was wrong, but I did it with good intentions. I promise, I will never hurt you again. I apologise." "I know what I did was wrong. I did it with good intentions. I promise, I will never hurt you again."
Emily turned her attention back to him and noticed the honesty that shone from inside his eyes. She took a few deep breaths as she tried to push through the feelings of hurt and betrayal that she was experiencing. "Can you prove it to me, Dmitry? Can you show me that what you're saying is true?" "Can you show me that what you're saying is true?"
Dmitry indicated with a nod before standing. "Follow me, Emily," the man said.
He took her through the woods till they came to a clearing in the middle of the vegetation. He came to a halt at the perimeter of the clearing and looked towards the earth below him.
"Emily," he called out, indicating the floor with his finger. "Take a look at these footprints; they were left by Marcus and his pack," she said.
Emily lowered her head and peered at the train tracks with a curious gaze. She was able to make out the outlines of wolf paws that had been imprinted in the soil.
As she turned towards Dmitry, she posed the following question to him: "How do you know they belong to Marcus?"
Dmitry pointed to a tree in the area, where he noticed a strand of dark fur entangled on one of the branches. "That's Marcus' fur. He has a unique black coat, which, as you can see, matches the tracks perfectly."
Emily was overcome with a sense of disbelief at the news. Dmitry was absolutely correct. Marcus had been taking advantage of her, but she had no idea that he was manipulating the situation in any way.
She turned her gaze to Dmitry while experiencing feelings of appreciation for him. "Thank you very much, Dmitry. I wasn't aware of what was going on, and you were absolutely correct; I ought to have trusted you."
Dmitry gave her a bear embrace and could feel a wave of relief sweep over him as he did so. Even though he was terrified that Emily would never forgive him, he knew that he had to do whatever it took to keep her safe.
Emily experienced a profound shift in her feelings of trust and respect for Dmitry as they made their way back to their campground. She was well aware that the road that lay ahead of them would be challenging, but she decided that she would give him a chance nevertheless.
Emily and Dmitry continued their exploration of the forest for several more months, looking for fresh pathways and concealed tunnels as the days grew into weeks. They bonded in ways that Emily had never seen or experienced before as they talked for hours, expressing their dreams and anxieties with one another.
One day as they were walking, Dmitry suddenly halted, and his ears perked up as he looked about. Emily turned her attention to him while also experiencing apprehension.
"What exactly is it, Dmitry?"
Dmitry gave her a gesture to indicate that she should remain quiet before turning his head away from her. "Do you pick up on that?" "Do you hear that?"
Emily gave a careful ear and picked up on a barely audible sound out in the distance. It sounded very much like wolves roaring at each other.
Dmitry stared at her with terror in his eyes as she approached. "Emily, we have to leave right away."
The wailing grew louder and more intense as they continued to make their way through the woodland. Emily was caught off guard and filled with dread because she had no idea what was taking place.
As they were making their way back to their tent, they noticed a pack of wolves coming their way. Emily was able to identify them as the group that Marcus had been a member of in the past.
She questioned, with trembling in her voice, "What do we do, Dmitry?"
Dmitry took her by the hand and led her to hide behind a boulder in the area. "We wait, Emily, and see what it is that they want," I told her.
Dmitry became increasingly agitated as the pack got closer to them. He was aware that they had arrived for Emily with the intention of stealing her away from him and his family.
They remained still and motionless there, waiting for the rest of the pack to make their move. Suddenly, one of the wolves advanced towards the group of humans. It was Marcus all along.
"Emily," he uttered in a tone that was icy. We won't harm you if you come with us, so don't be afraid.
Emily gazed at Dmitry while experiencing feelings of apprehension and bewilderment. She was at a loss for what action to take.
Dmitry moved one step closer while projecting an air of power with his words. "Leave, Marcus. Leave, and don't ever come back. I'm responsible for her safety at this point."
Marcus let out a caustic chuckle while flashing his fangs at Dmitry. You have no right to have her, Dmitry, because you are a scoundrel.
Dmitry maintained his erect posture, the fire of determination shining in his eyes. "She is mine, Marcus, and I won't allow you to take her," he said.
The two alphas squared off against one another, their eyes meeting in a contest of wills. Emily observed, trembling and amazed at the intensity of the two people's conflict with one another as she did so.
Suddenly, Marcus made a move and charged towards Dmitry, trying to get his attention. Dmitry was prepared, and he deflected Marcus's blow before charging headfirst into the fight against the other alpha.
Emily realised that this was a battle to the very end as she watched them engage in it. She had no idea how everything would turn out, but she was certain that she had to be at Dmitry's side no matter what.
Dmitry emerged victorious out of nowhere, towering above Marcus in his beaten form as he did so in his wolf form.
He shifted his focus to Emily as he turned, the look of affection and concern in his eyes. "Are you okay, Emily?"
After giving a small nod, Emily threw herself into Dmitry's arms. "Thank you so much, Dmitry. You really came through for me."
Dmitry gave her a bear embrace and felt an overwhelming wave of relief flood over him as he did so. He was well aware that they had a long journey in front of them, but for the time being, he was content with the success that they had achieved.
Emily felt Dmitry's arms about her as they laid down to rest together that night, and he was both comforting and protective of her. She was aware of the fact that there was nobody else in the world that she would rather be with. Dmitry was more than just her companion; he was also her guardian and her love.
