Chapter 5 .

Chapter 5 .

Emily had been on the road with Dmitry for a few months at this point, and despite the fact that they had gotten closer to one another, she still yearned for the life she had left behind. She longed for Bella, her best friend, and a return to some semblance of normalcy, both of which seemed impossible while she was forced to coexist with a renegade Alpha.

Dmitry, having picked up on Emily's agitation, made the decision to give her permission to get in touch with Bella. He was aware of the significance it held for her to continue the relationships she had developed outside of their shared circumstance.

"Dmitry," Emily said with some trepidation. "Can I call Bella?"

Dmitry stared at her in bewilderment as she approached. "Do you want to?"

Emily nodded excitedly. "Yes, I miss her so much, and all I want is to hear her voice again," you said.

Dmitry let out a sigh as he deliberated over his choice. Even though he was aware of the potential dangers involved, he went ahead and allowed Emily to communicate with Bella since he believed it was necessary for her health. Okay, Emily. You can call her, but you are not allowed to tell her where you are.

Emily gave a short nod, expressing her appreciation for Dmitry's comprehension. She proceeded to the adjoining cottage, which Dmitry had outfitted with a phone in order for them to communicate with one another. She eagerly dialled Bella's phone, despite the fact that her heart was beating.

Before Bella eventually answered the call, the phone had already rung a few times. She spoke with a tone of eagerness in her voice as she said, "Hello?"

Emily shouted, "Bella!" as she wiped the tears that were running down her face. "Emily, this is your friend."

As Bella laboured to comprehend the information that she was receiving, there was a brief pause on the other end of the queue. "Emily," she called out in the end. "Where are you? Are you okay?"

Emily was overcome with feelings of remorse at the moment. She was conscious of the fact that she was unable to divulge her location, but she also felt that she could not lie to her friend. I'm sorry, Bella, but I can't tell you that right now. However, I can assure you that I am in good hands with the person who is currently caring for me.

On the other end of the queue, Bella sounded agitated. "Who is this person? And why won't you tell me where you are?"

Emily let out a sigh as she realised she was powerless. She wanted that she could just tell Bella everything, but she was aware that doing so would put them both in harm's way. "I can't, Bella. I'm sorry. Please just know that I love you and that I miss you."

The tone of Bella's voice became softer. "I miss you too, Em. Is there anything I can do to make things better for you?"

Before she opened her mouth, Emily pondered what to say. She was aware of the fact that one of her goals was to meet Bella and spend time with her friend in person. I really need to see you, Bella, and I was wondering if you could pay me a visit.

Before Bella spoke again, there was a little period of stillness on the other end of the queue. "I don't know, Em. If I don't know where you are, how can I find you?" "I have no idea."

Emily let out a sigh as she experienced yet another surge of remorse washing over her. "I get it. Please just... make an effort... I need you."

On the other line, Bella let out a long sigh. "Okay, Emily. I'll give it a shot. Just... make sure to stay safe, all right?"

Emily gave Bella a sliver of a smile and thanked her for her concern. "I will, Bella, because I love you so much."

"I love you too, Em. Goodbye."

Emily was overcome with a variety of feelings as she hung up the phone after her conversation. She was relieved to have been able to communicate with Bella, but she was also upset by the limitations that Dmitry had imposed on her. She was aware that her circumstances were far from ideal, but for the time being, all she could do was wait and keep her fingers crossed that Bella would come visit her.

Emily made an effort to prevent herself from being bored as the days evolved into weeks by going on adventures in the neighbouring woodland and spending time with Dmitry. He had established himself as her constant companion, her confidant, and her protector during the course of their time together.

Emily observed that Dmitry's eyes were becoming increasingly distant one day when they were walking together. "What's the matter, Dmitry? What's the matter?"

Dmitry's gaze became intense as he regarded her. "Emily, we have to leave right away."

Emily was overcome with a feeling of unease that she couldn't quite place. "What exactly is going on?"

Dmitry indicated for her to follow him with a hand gesture. "We've had a sighting. There's another pack on the way. We need to get out of here before they find us."

Fear was palpable in Emily as she felt her heart beating. She was at a loss for what to do, but she was aware that she needed to put her faith in Dmitry's intuition.

They hurriedly packed, taking whatever things they could before leaving. Emily was having second thoughts just as they were about to leave.

"Dmitry," she pleaded with him. "Please." Because I really need to talk to Bella, would it be possible for us to just wait for her to arrive?

Dmitry gave a little shake of the head. I'm sorry, Emily, but we simply can't afford to take that chance. We have to leave.

Emily felt a wave of melancholy wash over her as they ran into the woods in pursuit of safety. It dawned on her that her life would never be the same again, and that she would be on the run for the rest of her life.

Emily could feel the strain of their predicament pressing down on her as they prepared their campsite for the night. She was aware that Dmitry was making every effort to protect her, but she couldn't escape the feeling that they were running out of time. She knew that Dmitry was doing everything in his power to protect her.

Her thoughts moved to Bella as she began to nod out and drift off to sleep. She prayed that her friend would come across her and that they would be able to be together again at last.

Emily and Dmitry remained successful in avoiding capture by the other pack as the days grew into weeks. They moved deeper into the forest, subsisting off the soil and keeping a low profile so as not to be discovered by anyone who could have been looking for them.

One day, when they were setting up their camp, Dmitry walked up to Emily with a serious expression on his face. "Emily, I really need to talk to you."

Emily's look was one of anxiety as she glanced at him. "What exactly is it, Dmitry?"

Dmitry inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly as he attempted to collect his thoughts. "Emily, we can't keep running. We have to find a place to stop moving around so much and make a home for ourselves."

Emily stared at him with a startled expression on her face. "What do you mean?"

Dmitry made himself comfortable next to her and reached across to take her hand. "I mean that we can't keep living like this forever, Emily. We have to find a pack, a community, or somewhere else where we can belong."

When Emily considered the possibility of locating a community in which she could feel at home, an upwelling of optimism washed over her. She was aware that Dmitry had been correct in his assertion that being on the run was not a healthy way to spend one's life.

She responded with a grin, "Okay, Dmitry," as the grin stretched across her face. "Let's do it. Together, let's find a place that we can call home."

Emily experienced a profound shift in her sense of direction as they continued on their trek. She was aware that the path that lay before of them would be challenging, but she also was aware that they would conquer it together. She had complete faith in Dmitry, and she was certain that he would watch out for her wellbeing at all times. She couldn't wait to see where their trip would lead them, and she cherished the thought that one day, they might be able to locate a community to which they could finally call home.

The sound of birds chirping outside was what roused Emily from her sleep. She gradually opened her eyes and took in her surroundings as she did so. Inside of a spartan cabin in the middle of a thick forest, she was resting her head on a homemade bed. On the bed next to hers, Dmitry was sound asleep and making a faint snoring sound.

Emily let out a sigh as a wave of melancholy and isolation washed over her. She suffered from a severe case of Bella withdrawal. She longed to catch up with her and hear about everything that had transpired in her life since she had left her family and friends behind. The sound of rustling in the distance diverted Emily's attention away from her thoughts. She got out of bed and headed over to the window to take a look at what was going on outside.

It was Dmitry, scrounging up some wood for the morning fireplace. Emily sent him a warm grin through the glass as she thought about how much she appreciated everything he had done for her. Over the course of the preceding few months, Dmitry had served as her constant companion, providing her with both safety and protection. Emily was aware that she could not keep living her life in such a manner indefinitely. She yearned for her previous existence, including her family and her close friends. She had a terrible absence of Bella, and she was well aware that Bella was concerned about her.

Emily was absorbed in her thoughts as she sat on the bed. She couldn't stop wondering if Bella had found a means to assist her in evading Dmitry's control and she couldn't quit thinking about it. Emily was aware that this was the only way for her to successfully escape this predicament. However, she needed to exercise caution. She was well aware of Dmitry's intelligence and cunning, and she felt it was her duty to ensure that he did not take them by surprise.

Emily was engrossed in her thoughts when she became aware of sounds coming from outside the cabin. She got out of bed and proceeded to walk towards the front door. When she opened it, she saw Dmitry waiting outside with a bag of groceries in his hand. "Good morning," he greeted her, smiling at her as he did so.

Emily greeted the day with "good morning" while making an effort to appear upbeat.

Dmitry entered the cabin, and the two of them immediately began preparing breakfast for themselves. Emily felt a sense of comfort from Dmitry's presence in the kitchen, which she attributed to the fact that he was a familiar face. On the other hand, she was aware that he was always monitoring her and following her every move in order to protect her.

Dmitry inquired about Emily's well-being as they sat down to eat together, saying, "How are you holding up, Emily?"

Emily managed a feeble smile. "I'm okay."

Dmitry looked at her with concern on his face. "I understand that it is difficult for you to live like this, but I assure you that things will get better in the future."

Emily's expression changed to one of intense attention. "What do you mean?"

Dimitry elaborated on his meaning by saying, "I mean that we have to begin looking for a pack, a community. We can't keep living like this forever. It's not safe for us."

Emily experienced a wave of calm and contentment as a result of the news. At long last, it appeared as though Dmitry was willing to consider the possibility of relocating to a new residence.

Emily's thoughts kept going back to Bella the whole time they were eating breakfast together. She questioned what it was that she was doing and whether or not she had devised a strategy to save her. She was aware that whatever Bella was doing at the time was dangerous, and she wished that her buddy would stay out of harm's way.

Emily was now at the point where she couldn't suppress the thoughts any longer. "Dmitry, may I speak with you for a moment?"

"Sure, Emily. What is it?" / "Are you sure?"

Emily replied, in an attempt to seem nonchalant, "Do you think Bella would be able to find us?" Bella hadn't shown up yet.

Dmitry gave her a dubious glance and arched an eyebrow as he did so. "Why do you ask?"

Emily hesitated because she had a bad feeling about it. She was unable to let Dmitry in on her true intentions at that time. I was only curious as to whether or not she had missed seeing me.

Dmitry looked at her with sympathy in his eyes. Emily, I am positive that she does, but you are aware of how dangerous it would be for anyone to find out where we are.

Emily said, "I know," though her voice was husky. When she realised she was in the same predicament as before, she couldn't help but feel helpless and miserable.

Following breakfast, Dmitry made the decision to take Emily on a walk through the woods. Emily was relieved to have something else to divert her attention, and she enthusiastically went after him into the thick undergrowth. Emily couldn't help but stop and admire the way the sunshine glowed through the branches of the trees and produced dappled shadows on the ground as they travelled.

In spite of the fact that she was taking pleasure in the natural splendour of their location, Emily's mind continued to be preoccupied with thoughts of Bella. She pondered the whereabouts of her companion and contemplated the likelihood of her ever being located again. Emily was well aware that she could not depend just on Dmitry's word in this matter. She was responsible for finding her own way out of this predicament.

Emily spent the evening sitting up in bed, reading a book that Dmitry had gifted to her earlier. Dmitry was scrubbing the barrel of his revolver while he sat at the table. Emily broke the awkward lull in conversation by eventually addressing Dmitry with the question, "Dmitry, can I ask you something?"

Dmitry's response was, "Of course, Emily. What is it?" while he remained focused on the task at hand.

Emily questioned, "Would you ever let me go? Like, if I wanted to leave?" as she felt a wave of horror rush over her. "Would you ever let me go?"

Dmitry gave her a startlingly blank stare as he gazed up at her. "Why do you ask?"

Before continuing, Emily inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly. "I'm just curious, Dmitry. You're not the Alpha of our pack, and you don't have any obligation to keep me with you. You're free to do whatever you want with me."
