CHAPTER 17: LOSING HAVEN

The lights hit my eyes too hard as my lashes weakly fluttered open. I hissed quietly in pain, closing them back. 

Mustering courage to brace the gleaming lights, I opened my eyes again but slowly and cautiously. It wasn’t as bad as before. 

Ignoring the heavy throbbing on both sides of my temples, I slowly raised my weak frame to a sitting position and gave my surrounding a full-on scan. 

The typical white walls and sparsely decorated room plus the steady beeping monitor quelled my curiosity — I was in a hospital.

How come? Memories from the previous day came flooding. Fear, guilt and sorrow gripped me. My daughter....
