My eyelids fluttered open, heavy as if weighted by a thousand stones. The light above was harsh, sterile, burning my retinas and making me wince.
As I tried to lift my head, a sharp ache shot through my abdomen making me gasp and sink back into the pillows.
“Elira!” The familiar voice wrapped around me, as the hand steadied my shoulders, letting me sink back onto the bed, “stay down, stay down.”
