I stayed rooted on the bed watching Aiden as he finally completed his words. Three days had passed and no matter how much I burned to know what surgery the doctor had mentioned, Aiden never spoke.
But now, it is finally out. It wasn't just a surgery. It wasn't a surgery because I was bleeding. It was a unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.
Bile rose in my throat at the bitter taste of the word. Something essential — something deeply mine was gone. My chest tightened as I laid onto the bed and the doctor sighed.
