Consciousness clawed its way back slowly, like someone dragging a heavy curtain open in a room.
Something felt wrong. Too quiet. Too soft. Too still.
A faint ringing pulsed in my ears overlapping with my heartbeat and at once, my eyes snapped open. I sat up in an instant, light stabbing at my eyes.
