I was feeling pretty nervous when I agreed to be on my school's quiz bowl team. Not that I was daunted by the academics, of course; I was already a shoe-in to be my class's valedictorian. Nor was I worried about performing under pressure. I'd scored a 1560 on my SATs on my first time out and I hadn't even studied. Nor was it the time commitment; I'd been balancing my academics with my baby-sitting jobs and ballet classes since forever.
It was the boys.
Boys don't frighten me, mind you; I'm not one of those shy girls who always makes excuses about not knowing how to talk to them...
