It was around nine a.m. when Louis entered the Fraternity hospital. His eyes squirmed as he entered the reception hall and waited for the lady behind the stall to talk.
"Mr. Parker, Miss Chelsea has already been taken to the X-ray room, she would be out anytime soon, then, you can get a look at her," the nurse said.
Unlike the lady that had been in waiting last night, this was a new staff and she looked friendly. Nodding his head, he took off to get himself a glass of sparkling water which he had only taken a sip of when news reached to him that he could go ahead and see Chelsea.
"This way, Mr. Parker," a nurse said directing the road.
That was quite stressful since he had to walk all the way to the ward, and just like he had wanted, the doctor had taken care of placing Chelsea in a clean and proper room with high standards of hygiene. It warmed his heart sweeping through the entire space with his eyes and when he glared at the sickbed and the patient there, his eyes stung with unshed tears, that was crazy, but the least he could do prevailed not to spare a tear at all.
Chelsea's eyes were open but Louis doubted if she could see him. Nodding once to the doctor, he hurried to the lady's side of the bed and knelt down.
"Baby, are you there?" Louis called out with hopes that Chelsea would answer.
He didn't want to shed a single tear, he knew he wanted to cry, but for the love of heaven, he didn't because he guessed he had to be strong, and much of it for the sake of Chelsea.
"Who are you?" Chelsea's light voice came out as he eyes the young man quizzically.
A stench of smell waffled Chelsea's nostrils and she knew for once that she wanted to vomit, that would be crazy but she took a deep breath wondering what that was like.
Louis knew he had to answer the question but again, he wondered who he really was to Chelsea.
"Your lover," he said swiftly not blinking.
Chelsea didn't say anything and there was no need for Louis to push forth with that part of the conversation. The doctor coughed lightly trying to draw the attention he deserves, well, he got to that point then, because Louis pulled his head up and straightened his back.
"It's going to be hard on the lady, but recovery would be slow and we can't tell when that would be," Dr. Harris said faintly.
Louis blew light air from his mouth, that was frantic, he even tried his best to get his eyes back on Chelsea and hated himself for hitting her last night.
"I hope she can regain her memory soon," Louis said.
He knew he had the sole responsibility of taking care of Chelsea, to love and providing for her. At the mention of the word love, he blushed lightly, but he was glad that he hadn't shaved that morning, thus, it wasn't visible.
"I'll leave you both now," Dr. Harris said, and as he took the first step towards the door, Louis hadn't realized he had spoken until the grim faced man turned to stare at him.
"When would she be able to leave the hospital?" his question had responded in the entire room.
There was a pause, he felt the hands from the clock on the wall click and knew that it was time he expected some reply from the man.
After a while of contemplating, Dr. Harris breathe out the ways he knew how.
"Maybe a day or two, but I think when she is stable enough to face the world," Dr. Harris muttered out.
There is something that wasn't right in Louis's mind but he dared not venture on talking because right now, he wanted that privacy with Chelsea.
Being calm for a while, Dr. Harris walked away closing the door as gently as he could behind him. Taking a deep breath, Louis stepped up his game and moved to the side of the bed holding the young lady's hand firmly in hers.
"Chelsea?" Louis called out his eyes watering.
Chelsea had a headache that was so outstanding, she felt the several pangs of headache that hit her head and she knew she was going to say something crazy.
"What... what is your name?" she inquired her head still aching her.
When she tried pushing her legs up, she felt like a log was placed on them, thus, making it difficult to improvise.
"Louis Joel Parker, we schooled together, remember? during junior year and high school," Louis muttered out weirdly and it was quite bizarre telling her that stuff because he had expected her to know those things.
"Louis..." she called out and it felt like the softest word that Louis had ever heard before.
He didn't want to cry, because he thought that being braced for this lady was needed.
"Yes, baby? is there anything you want?" Louis inquired faintly.
He didn't know why he was babbling, but he wants to be the best version of himself, the one that would at least be perfect in Chelsea's eyes.
"I think my throat is dry, and I would appreciate it if I can get a bottle of water," Chelsea said.
Louis quickly remembered the bottle of water he had bought from the dispenser and opening it, he brought it close to the lady's mouth letting her drink from it to the satisfaction.
When he was done, he removed the bottle and closed it with the lid, not removing his eyes from hers.
"What happened to me?" her question was straightforward and it felt like a bucket of ice cubes had just been released into his clothes.
The chills that went down his spine were visible, and he wished he could spare the lady from the sight.
"I ran over you with my car last night," he said simply and closed his eyes not wanting to face her immediately.
