Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Monica POV:

I suddenly heard a man’s voice behind me. I was shocked and looked back.

In front of the fountain not far away, a man in a burgundy shirt put his hands in his pants pockets and looked at me playfully.

He doesn’t look very young. He was about thirty years old, but he is very handsome. He is more mature than Norman. He has a pair of deep and affectionate eyes. His pupils are blue. When I looked into his eyes, I feel like I am standing in front of a sea. I love this kind of feeling.

He must be a playboy.

He should also be today’s guest, and his clothes are special. The cuffs on his shirt are made of sapphire. He looks much richer than our family.

I stood up and looked at him defensively, “Who are you? What are you sitting here for?”

He walked to me slowly, “Like you, I don’t like the noisy place, so I just stay here.”

I didn’t know him, so I didn’t want to talk to him. I took a candy from my bag and put it into my mouth.

Although the candy was sweet, I still feel bitter.

In the living room, I peeked at Isa and Norman, who were still dancing. They hugged each other and laughed.

“Do you like him?”

The man hit it! Suddenly, my heart beat fast. I immediately turned around and refuted, “You are talking nonsense. I will never like Norman, ok?”

The man smiled and said meaningfully, “Oh, it turned out that the person you like is Norman.”

I was stunned and immediately became angry.

He was fishing for her information! What a cunning old man!

I turned around and strode away, but he caught up with me and stopped me.

“Are you angry? I didn’t say anything to provoke you, right?”

He smiled like a sly fox. I snorted, “Yes, you didn’t say anything. I’m so stupid, so you can fool me. I won’t dare to be angry with you.”

The man smiled more happily. He took the candy paper from my hand and said, “Do you know what you look like now? A cute little hedgehog, may I ask you to put away your prickles for a while? I want to talk with you.”

He looked at the busy hall behind him and said, “After all, it’s finally quiet now.”

I didn’t want to go back to the hall at all, and he didn’t look like a bad guy. I turned around and went to the fountain to sit down.

“I don’t know you. I don’t think we can talk.”

The man smiled and sat beside me, “If we don’t talk, then we will never know each other.”

He was eloquent. I couldn’t defeat him by logical discussion, so I could only continue to eat the candy in my bag.

“May I smoke?” He took his cigarette case out of his trousers pocket and asked me.

“No!” I refused decisively.

I hate the smell of tobacco. My father even gave up smoking for me.

He seemed to guess that I would refuse. He immediately took the cigarette box back, and then spread out his broad palm, and handed it to me, “Can you give me a candy?”

I still wanted to refuse him, but he showed a pitiful and innocent look, “I planned to come here to smoke. Since you are here, I can’t smoke. I could only ask you for candy to control my addiction to tobacco.”

He spoke righteously, which made me look like a sinner. I had to hand over the last candy to him.

“Thank you. I owe you a favor.”

I didn’t want to be involved with such a cunning person. I replied coldly, “I don’t need you to do that. It’s just candy.”

“I can help you pursue Norman. Don’t you want to do that?”

He mentioned Norman again. I straightened up, frowned, and warned him, “I said I had nothing to do with him. I don’t like him. Please stop talking nonsense!”

“He’s your mate, isn’t he?”

I was frightened by his words again.

I turned around to look at him. He looked confident as if he could come up with countless pieces of evidence to refute me as long as I rejected it.

Hearing that, I was no longer rude to him. I whispered, “How do you know that? Who are you?”

“You don’t need to know that. You just need to answer me yes or no.” The man said carelessly. He didn’t want to explain.

He could know what I was thinking with his eyes. When he looked at me, I couldn’t tell a lie.

“Yes,” I admitted it, and then immediately denied it, “but not now.”

Norman likes my sister, not me. Everyone wants him to marry my sister. It’s not necessary to say that Norman is my mate. It will bother them.

“Why?” The man asked me.

“Because Norman is an outstanding man. Only my sister deserves to be with him.” My nose stung. I lowered my head and said, “I am so ordinary. He will only treat me as a sister, not a mate.”

The man was silent for a few seconds, then raised his hand to touch my head.

“It doesn’t matter. You are an outstanding girl. You will definitely find a better mate than Norman.”

I was stunned. I didn’t know why. Was it because of his gentle touch or his comfort?

“You don’t need to comfort me. I’m not good at all. My mother doesn’t like me and my teacher doesn’t like me. They often say I’m awful.” When I stood with my sister, I feel inferior. I don’t think I deserve to be her sister.

I deserve nobody’s love.

“No. I like you very much.”

I looked back at him suddenly. He was gently smiling.

“You, you, what are you talking about?” I think I must flush. I stood up in shock and was about to refute him, but I heard my mother’s sharp voice again.

“Monica! Where the hell are you?”

I wanted to run, but my mother soon came out of the corridor. As soon as she saw me, her expression suddenly became fierce, but then she tenderly smiled.

“Mr. Firth, why are you here? Is my daughter bothering you? She is just so rude and vulgar. Please forgive her.”

Firth?

I was so surprised that I couldn’t close my mouth when I heard this famous surname.

Among all the werewolf packs in California, the Firth family’s Black Fire Pack is the most powerful one. Their Alpha is the most likely to become the wolf king.

Is this the alpha of the Black Fire Pack?

The man nodded to my mother and said politely, “It doesn’t matter. I had a good chat with her, did I?”

He looked at me and smiled politely.

“I don’t think so!” My mother turned pale because of my rude words.

“Monica! What are you talking about? How can you talk to a distinguished guest like that?”

However, he didn’t mind at all. Instead, he asked me, “Why? Are you still angry with me?”

“No!” I shook my head, “Because you haven’t told me who you are in the beginning, but you know I am Monica. It is not fair!”

Mother tried to cover my mouth, but I kept avoiding her.

The man looked at me and laughed happily.

“You’re right. I’m sorry I haven’t introduced myself.” He reached out to me, “Hello, Monica, my name is Martin Firth.”

Martin Firth?

He is the alpha of the Black Fire Pack indeed, who is most likely to be the the wolf king!
