Monica POV:
Seeing that I was surprised, Martin smiled, “That’s why I don’t want to introduce myself. If you know who I am, you dare not speak frankly to me.”
I won’t!
“Don’t flatter yourself. I don’t care who you are. I can always be myself!”
Martin looked at Monica with appreciation, “Yes, I hope you can always treat me like what you did just now.”
When he finished speaking, my father hurried there.
“Martin, you’re here. I’ve been looking for you for a long time.” Father came up and shook hands with Martin. “I thought you weren’t coming.”
“Of course, I come here.” Martin shook hands with my father, then looked at me who stood there quietly. “If I don’t come, I won’t know your lovely and clever daughter.”
My father also looked at me. He was a little dissatisfied with my silence. He whispered to me, “Moni, have you greeted Uncle Martin? You have grown up. You should learn to be polite to people.”
Martin kept smiling at me as if expecting me to greet him.
Just as I was about to speak, my mother pushed me hard again, “Are you dumb? Say something!”
I almost fell to the ground because of her push. Martin immediately came forward to help me.
“Be careful!”
Although he held my hand, he didn’t look frivolous at all. After I stood up, he immediately released me and said to my mother, “Don’t worry. I know Moni is not a rude girl. I like to be with her. You don’t have to be so strict with her.”
Mother smiled at Martin as if she wanted to apologize to him. However, she didn’t mean to change her attitude toward me at all. She frowned and urged me, “Hey! Say thank you to Uncle Martin!”
“Thank you, Uncle Martin. My name is Monica. Nice to meet you.” I just tried to put my mother off, and then slip away.
Martin didn’t mind it at all. He raised his hand and touched my head again, “Hello, Monica, I’m your father’s friend. Thank you for this wonderful chat.”
Father seemed to really care about Martin. Before Martin could say anything else, he invited him again, “I’ll take you to the lounge. Today is also my eldest daughter Isabella’s birthday. I will ask her to see you.”
“There’s no need, Frank. I don’t need special treatment. I just want to be with Monica.”
I turned to look at him in surprise, and Martin immediately smiled at me.
When did I promise to accompany him? Don’t talk nonsense!
However, I was not able to refuse. Hearing Martin’s words, my mother immediately pushed me to Martin.
“Well, I will ask Isabella to come and greet you now. Please go easy on her in the future.”
After my mother left, my father continued to chat with Martin about how to manage his business and the pack. I didn’t understand anything they said and yawned idly.
“All right, Frank.” When my father kept talking, Martin interrupted him, “There is a banquet here, so we won’t talk about business, ok? It’s annoying.”
Father was stunned and smiled.
“You are right. Today is a happy day. We shouldn’t talk about such serious things.”
With that, they heard Isabella’s charming voice from the corridor.
“Daddy, what can I do for you?”
I looked up and saw Isabella. She held Norman’s hand, trotting out of the hall. The crystals and diamonds on her skirt sparkled under the light, which was so beautiful that attracted people’s attention.
I secretly looked at Martin next to me. Martin, a playboy, should like such a beautiful girl as Isabella.
However, to my surprise, Martin did not look at Isabella with admiration like other men.
Martin seemed to notice that I was peeking at him. He suddenly looked down at me. Being shocked, I immediately turned around and pretended to see the scenery.
“Isa, Norman, come here and say hello to Uncle Martin.” Father asked them to come over and introduced Martin to them, “This is Uncle Martin, my friend, and the Alpha of Black Fire Pack.”
“Uncle Martin, hello. My name is Isabella. I’m so glad that you can come to my rite of passage.” Isabella saluted Martin and then introduced Norman to him. “This is my friend, Norman Cooper.”
“Hello, Uncle Martin.” Norman shook hands with Martin, “I often heard my father mention you. He said you are talented, and he hopes to learn more from you in the future.”
“I’m not that good. You are exaggerating.” Martin was much more polite in front of them, which was different from how he treated me just now.
“Uncle Martin, we are dancing. Do you want to come?” Isabella excitedly invited Martin.
I thought Martin would abandon me to join the dance, but he actually refused.
“No, I have to accompany this little girl.”
Then he touched my head again.
“Hello?” I shook off his hand angrily, “Don’t touch my head! You’ve messed up my hair!”
Norman was still here. I didn’t want him to see me in a mess.
“What about you, Moni? Don’t you want to dance with us?”
I looked up at Norman who was talking to me. He looked at me with a smile.
“I haven’t danced with you yet.”
Could I dance with Norman? Was it my gift?
I was about to nod my head and say yes, but Isabella refused him for me.
“No, Norman, Moni doesn’t like dancing. She has uncoordinated limbs and often steps on her partner’s feet. Trust me. You don’t want to dance with her.”
I suddenly flushed with shame. I lowered my head and dared not look at Norman.
Isabella was right. When I danced, my body was stiff, and I always got nervous. Every time I practice, I step on my dance teacher’s feet.
It’s good for me to refuse Norman. I didn’t want him to know my bad dance skills.
“Yes, I don’t like dancing. You can go back and dance. I’m going to eat something.”
Norman wanted to say something else, but Isabella pulled him away directly.
“Norman, let’s continue to dance. Moni, don’t eat too much. Don’t you see that? You got a big belly.”
Hearing Isabella’s words, I was in no mood to eat anything.
Watching Isabella and Norman go away, I heaved a sigh.
I hate this party. It reminds me that I don’t deserve Norman all the time. Even if I can feel that he is my mate, I can’t marry him.
Martin looked at me and asked, “You obviously want to dance with Norman. Why did you refuse him?”
I was not in the mood to quarrel with Martin, so I just said coldly, “Because I was not good at dance. I don’t want Norman to look down on me.”
“You haven’t tried it yet. How do you know he will dislike you?” He returned the candy to me, “Just trust yourself. Don’t listen to your sister’s words. Perhaps he likes to dance with you.”
“It’s impossible!” I replied to him without hesitation. “He likes my sister because she is an outstanding girl.”
I straightened up and pushed his hand back, “The candy is yours. Thank you for comforting me, Uncle Martin.”
“I’m telling the truth. Don’t be sad. Today is your birthday.” Martin picked up a rose beside him and gave it to me. “I’m sorry that I didn’t have time to prepare a gift. This is for you.”
I scowled at him, “Hey! It supposes to be my stuff. I didn’t allow you to pick my flowers!”
Martin laughed, “Moni, you are so interesting. Don’t worry, I will give you a birthday gift tomorrow.”
