To ease the financial burden on my family, I took up a part-time job handing out flyers for a real estate company after work.
What I didn't expect was to run into my husband here.
When I saw the man stepping out of that stretched Maybach, I froze.
"O... Owen?"
I murmured softly, disbelief flashing across my face.
I couldn't understand why my husband, who was supposed to be delivering food to help support our household, was here. And how was he stepping out of such a luxurious car, the kind I'd avoid just walking past on the street?
I stood there, dumbfounded, my eyes locked on the man before me.
I noticed he wasn't wearing the cheap sportswear I had bought him online, but a suit so expensive I couldn't even guess its price.
"Could Owen have a twin brother?"
The absurd thought popped into my head.
After all, the man in front of me had the same face as my husband, but his demeanor was completely different.
My husband was approachable, like a warm ray of sunshine.
The man before me, however, was cold and noble, like an untouchable star in the sky.
"I must be mistaken. This can't possibly be Owen."
I shook my head with a smile.
But in the next second, I caught a glimpse of the red mole on the man's collarbone.
I was completely stunned!
My husband had that same mark!
Could it be... this man was really my husband?
Clatter!
I was so startled by my own thoughts that I trembled, dropping the flyers I was holding all over the ground!
The supervisor next to me frowned and scolded:
"What's wrong with you?"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
I quickly apologized, bending down to pick up the flyers scattered on the floor.
But as I gathered them, my gaze involuntarily drifted back to the man.
I saw him step out of the car, but he didn't leave right away. Instead, he extended his hand.
A flicker of confusion flashed across my face.
The next moment, a delicate, white hand rested in his.
"Owen, thank you for coming here with me."
A beautiful girl in a white dress stepped out of the car.
Boom!
My mind went blank, as if struck by lightning!
The man before me was indeed Owen!
"No... This can't be!"
I whispered, my voice trembling, my face full of disbelief.
"What can't be?"
The supervisor's voice came from behind me.
I quickly stood up and turned to her, desperately asking:
"Supervisor, do you know who that man is?"
The supervisor looked puzzled for a moment, then, as if she had realized something, a mocking smile tugged at her lips.
"Charlotte, I suggest you focus on handing out flyers and stop dreaming about rising from obscurity to greatness!"
"That's Owen, the head of the top financial empire, the Thomas Group. Someone of your social status, shouldn't even think about someone like him."
Her words drained all the color from my face, shattering the last bit of hope I had.
At that moment, I didn't care about the part-time job anymore.
I ran after Owen, heading in the direction he had left.
But just as I was about to catch up, I lost all my courage.
I couldn't bring myself to confront Owen and ask him what was going on.
I hid nearby.
I watched as the usually high-and-mighty manager bowed and scraped before Owen, like a servant.
I watched as Owen, without blinking an eye, bought that girl a villa worth twenty million dollars.
A sharp pain pierced through my heart.
I looked down at my fifty-dollar sneakers and suddenly felt embarrassed.
They were already falling apart, but I still couldn't bear to throw them away.
It really is... laughable to the extreme!
