CHAPTER 1
She woke up with a scream in her mind, her heart pounding in her chest. The sheets were damp with sweat, and she could feel it beading on her forehead. She sat up, gasping for air, her eyes wide and staring into the darkness of her room. She look at the alarm clock to see it was still 4am in the morning and she still had some time left, like 2 to 3 hours before she will get ready for slave duties.
She saw them again in her dream, as they were beheaded for something they didn't do. They allowed her watch how they beheaded the people she loved the most in this whole world. Tears rolled down her face as it lingered on her mind. She shivered, pulling the covers tighter around her body.
She tried to shake off the feeling of dread that clung to her, but it was like a weight on her chest, making it hard to breathe. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart.
She laid back down, but sleep was elusive. Every time she closed her eyes, the dream came back, and she found herself screaming again but they couldn't be saved.
She got up, and walked to my small window, she opened it, letting the cool early morning air wash over her. She leaned out, taking deep breaths, trying to clear her mind, the window was small but big enough for her to lean out. She was glad she got this part of the room. Most slaves slept on the floors, while some were given certain privileges like having a room and small bed, covers, either because of their background or their service to the royal family and she was one of the people with that privilege.
She didn't know how long she stood there, but eventually, her heart rate slowed, and she felt calm. She closed the window, and went back to bed, but shs knew she wouldn't be able to sleep. She laid there, wide awake, staring at the ceiling.
Now why don't we retrace the steps that led to her enslavement.
