The ground shook. Dust whooshed into their faces. Leah coughed.
“Ghost,” she said, voice thin. “Where—where is he?”
“Stay down!” Ghost answered. He was breathing hard. “Stay with me!”
Leah pushed herself up. She saw the broken roof. She saw fire. She saw a shape where a wall used to be.
“He’s in there,” she said. “He’s in there. We have to get him out.”
“Leah, listen to me.” Ghost’s voice was firm. “We need to move. We can’t dig here. The structure is unstable.”
“No.” Leah’s voice shook. “You don’t understand. He saved us. He saved me. He’s in there. I can’t leave him.”
