Leo sat across from me at the dining table, absently pushing his scrambled eggs around the plate with the back of his fork. The usual curiosity that illuminated his hazel eyes was gone. He was quiet. Not even lifting his head when I poured more orange juice into his glass.

"You're not eating." I spoke up, keeping my tone calm and soft. "I asked you what you wanted for breakfast and made sure exactly that was cooked. So what is it, Leo?"
