Along the way, Ian examined the marble worker's report. 

The man was telling the truth, he was sure: if the dimensions of the plaque were a little different from those originally planned - a little wider, a little higher - and if a garland in the round were to surmount it, it would fit in better with that of their parents, immediately next door. 

It would only take a moment to go to the crypt to check all this out; then he could go home, find Eden, and reassure her about the bishop before telling her everything he'd learned about her brother-in- law... 

He wondered if Eden was all right....
