Chapter 3

Death in depression

“It's already the third cup of coffee this morning,” his ghost wife began to criticize Dave. “So you can get a heart attack. And where do you get the money for this?

They stood in the open air, at a table near a fast food kiosk. Dave ate a hot dog and washed down his coffee, and at the same time watched the dawn. And Lucia created a comfortable chair for herself, sat in it and began to throw skulls at passers-by, which appeared out of nowhere. Of course, these projectiles were ghostly, so no one noticed them, but the demoness was a lot of fun.

“Yesterday I was hoping to get enough sleep for that week of insomnia,” he justified himself, finishing his cup and finishing his hot dog. “But thank you for giving me at least five hours of sleep.” As for the money: I have a hundred stash left in my pocket from the printing of the last book.

With these words, the writer left and began to wander along the street in search of souls that can be sent to another world.

- So, while I was alive, I worked hard in two shifts, but you still had some stash?! Lucia was indignant, catching up with him. They walked along the street, ordinary people passed by, wandering back and forth about their business. And ghosts and souls, for some reason stuck in this world, also rushed by. And passing by them, Lucia looked at each ghost and chose who she would like to see as her trophy. — No… no… too… not enough… fu, not good… But this pale one might do…

— I have a better idea, — Dave suggested after hearing the police siren.

They walked towards the sound they heard and entered a narrow alley between two tall buildings. A police car and an ambulance parked there, blocking the passage, and a group of experts gathered between them, examining the dead body of a young girl. Dave came closer to eavesdrop on their conversation about this, and Lucia again began to mock the corpse. The photographer girl filmed this place from all angles, and when she noticed Dave, she was a little scared, remembering his presence at the previous crime scene. In the meantime, Dave stood aside and listened to the detective talking about the incident into his recorder:

- As I said, the victim is a young girl, a student, about ... twenty ...

- Or younger, you will understand this youth, - added Lucia, digging in her intestines.

“…The cause of death was a fall from a great height and landing flat on the stomach and face. Judging by the position of the body and the open window above it, she had fallen from the fifth floor of the dorm. No signs of violence were found, except for cuts on her wrists ... apparently, she really wanted to commit suicide ... and she succeeded, - with these words, he turned off the recorder and began to collect his things. — Damn, what kind of generation is growing up now? Why do our kids hate life so much that they want to end it like this? Damn, what is this? Third suicide this week! You can go crazy with this job.

Having completed all the necessary documents and made enough pictures, the body was taken away, all things were collected, and everyone left. Lucia became angry again that her patient was taken away early, and pelted the ambulance with torn organs. The whole car became bloody, but it was just a ghostly joke, so no one saw it. Even Dave, who was busy: he saw a vision where this student is jumping out of the window. And it was not shown why she did it, only her tear-stained face and cut hands are visible.

“Well,” Lucia was the first to break the silence, “I don’t see her soul nearby, which means she has been in Hell for a long time, marked with the stigma of suicide. It’s just a pity that we didn’t help her, and I don’t count the day for you.

— But I didn't hope, — to his wife's surprise, Dave answered, carefully examining the open window. “However, something is not right here. Normal people, no matter how much they hate life, would not dare to do this. And whether you like it or not, I want to get this over with before the teenagers die.

“Wow, how correct we are,” the ghost demon began to grimace.

Dave walked towards the entrance to the hostel, as if avoiding the conversation. In response, Lucia showed him her tongue, which soon turned into a red snake. The writer entered the dormitory, went up to the fifth floor and went to the victim's room. Her neighbors were standing in the corridor and discussing this tragedy, but in this conversation Dave did not hear anything useful, except for the name of the girl - Daisy. Saying that he was a private detective, Dave dispersed everyone so as not to interfere, and went into the room. It was an ordinary room for three people, which is full in this hostel. One window, an old chandelier, in the middle of a white ceiling, green wallpaper with patterns, parquet floor. There was enough space to accommodate three beds with personal bedside tables for each, a refrigerator, shelves for books and two tables: dining and writing. It seemed that the forensics had already checked everything they could here, but they didn't have Dave's powers. He just stood in the middle of the room waiting for the next vision. But Lucia distracted him by jumping on box-springs and singing nostalgic songs about student life.

Finally came the first vision: Daisy had locked the room and was rushing about the room back and forth, not knowing what to do. On the other hand, they began to knock on the door, then called loudly and demanded to open it. From the screams, the girl was worried more and more, she began to cry. And when they began to break down the door, she could no longer stand it, opened the window and jumped out of it. After that, the vision ended, and Dave saw Lucia, she was sitting on the windowsill and whistling:

— Phew, what a height! I think it was fun for her to fly for a couple of seconds. Too bad there were no wings.

But Dave didn't pay attention to his wife and strained to see the earlier events. And then he saw Daisy lying on the bed and covered with a blanket. Her roommates tried to wake her up but to no avail. Then the blanket was pulled off her, and it turned out that she had cut her veins and almost completely bled out. The friends squealed and ran for help, and that was the end of the vision.

Dave wanted to inspect the nightstand next to her bed, but it was already empty. And then he concentrated, trying to see the reason for this behavior, but he was again distracted by Lucia. She opened the refrigerator, which contained jars of blood and organs, and began to choose dinner from this assortment. Taking a jar of porridge from brains and liver, she scooped up a handful of the contents with her hand and ate it, and when she saw her husband's grimacing face, she offered it to him, licking her fingers. He, of course, refused, and finally saw the following vision: Daisy happily ran into the room and began to brag to her neighbors that she had accidentally found the pendant. She showed around her neck a silver pendant with a round fire stone hanging from a silver chain. Dave took a closer look and saw a gray disfigured face in the stone shimmering with fiery color. He tried to get a better look at him, but he was frightened by a sudden crunch near his ear. In surprise, the writer turned in the direction of the sound
