"And here is the meeting room, it has been empty for a while but I don't suppose it would be empty for much longer since Master will send missives to tell his friends he now has an heir and visitors will start visiting, most of them will be entertained here." Agnes explained but Penn thoughts wasn't in the explanation. It was on the words Leda used in ushering him away from the kitchen, Stanley was her son? And Penn had just used her large mouth to bad talk the second most powerful person in the compound son and probably the most deadly.
"Sir… Our tour is over." Agnes said softly laying a hand on Penn chest and batting her eyes at her but Penn ignored the gesture. He had bigger things to think about than trying to decipher the meaning behind the rapid eye blinking the girl was doing that was making her look weird.
Penn jerked at the contact, she didn't like to be touched by those she didn't know but still she smiled. "Of course. Thank you for the tour."
"Sir, if it will please you and if you will have the time of course, a few of my friends and me are going out to watch the play which will be put on by the theatre, it would do us great honor if you were to accompany us." Agnes flutter her lashes at Penn.
"I am not so sure that I will have the time for that Agnes but if I am chanced then it would be my honor to accompany you and your friends." Penn said absentmindedly as Agnes smiled in happiness.
"Oh, thank you." She gushes, she couldn't believe her luck when Mistress Leda had called her to make her give the tour to the heir whom nobody knew yet and he just agreed to spend more time with her, if she continue to play her cards right, she might not end up married to him but maybe have a fling or something that will increase her chances of a better rank.
"What has you so happy?" Stanley marches in spitting the word happy out like it was the venom of a snake.
"Master Stanley." Agnes smile was wiped clean as she folded her arms before her and looked at the ground.
"What? You can't talk? And you can't help her?" Stanley directed the last of his word to Penn who turned his bored expression to face Stanley.
"I only talk in an issue when it concerns me and only if it was worth my time. You, are not."
"I should hit you for the disrespect you are heaping my way." Stanley gritted his teeth, he was seriously tempted to hit but he knew he could not. This was not the kind of person who he could get away with doing something bad to, especially since this person came into his household and took a position from him, the position which he had been working for, all his life.
"And I won't take the hit lying down." Penn returns. "Why are you here Stanley, you told me less than two hours ago that you don't have time to babysit me, why are you seeking me out now."
"It wasn't my choice you bastard." Stanley yells, his veins throbbing with anger. "If I have any choice in the matter, you will be out of this place, faster than I can throw you."
"That will be the last time you call me that." Penn said with her voice chilled. She had been ready to ignore Stanley but it was clear that the boy was going to cause trouble no matter what and she was used to fighting with enough bullies to know that the more you run, the more they chase. Stand and fight just once, injure them badly enough and they will leave you be to lick their wounds and stir clear from you.
"Or what will you do? Fight me. I will beat you mercilessly." Stanley taunts.
"You clearly are not the first or the last to underestimate me because of my size and no need for bragging, all you have to do is throw the first punch." Penn offered. Stanley looked torn for a minute before his expression cleared.
"You are not worth it."
"Glad you decided to use the small sense you chose to have. It might not be much but it is the right quantity to prevent you for making a mistake." Penn gave a taunt of her own that hit its marker when she saw a tic in Stanley jaw just before he threw a punch at Penn who had been anticipating it. Penn stepped quickly out of the way, kicking one of Stanley legs off the floor with enough force to have Stanley falling face flat on the ground and when Stanley made to rise, Penn stepped on his spine.
"If I were you, I would stay on the ground, give an apology and beg for forgiveness." Penelope adds as Agnes put a hand over her mouth.
"You c*nt." Stanley rages as Penn digs her foot into Stanley spine.
"That is the only warning which I would give you, try this next time and I will give you such a huge thrashing that your mother grace will not be able to cover for you as it is doing right now." Penn spat out.
Someone started clapping as Penn turned to look and saw that Lord Vallas was there along with some men who were dressed just like him, plain clothes that were free and would allow easy movements. "Master." Penn said as she took her foot off Stanley and joined her hands together at her back, with her stance widened while looking at the ground, the warrior stance.
"No need for that." Vallas smiled. He hadn't expected this when he sent Stanley to look for Penn, sure he had thought that the two of them will serve as competition to each other, making them thrive to do more but this was outright hostility. And a miracle that Penn could defeat Stanley without breaking a sweat. "Well down Penn."
"Thank you Master." Penn replied.
"Stanley." Vallas stared Stanley down who turned his face away at the disappointed which shone from Vallas face.
"I am sorry master." Stanley mumbled.
"You threw the first punch and you were beaten without the opponent raising a finger against you. A shame on all the trainings wasted on you." one of the people who was with Vallas said with scorn on his face. "And to think you were my student."
"Now. Now. Don't be hard on Stanley. Penn is on a new class order all by himself. Stanley was not forewarned." Vallas replied. "Masters, you have seen what my heir can do, now he needs to be trained according and be the best there is. He will be available for your trainings as from tomorrow. Penn, come with me." Penn gave a chin jerk as greeting to the masters and went after Vallas who walked away as soon as he was done saying what he wanted to say.
"Good job Penn, you just laid to rest all the doubts which my trainers were having." Vallas praised.
"How did you know that I was going to win against Stanley?" Penn asked.
"I didn't, I didn't even know that you were going to fight but I never doubted you, raised by a golden sparrow holder, a daughter or son will be given basic trainings then staying on the streets." Vallas smiled. "Was there any doubt that you would win?"
Penn nodded. "What are our plans for the day?"
"Getting you new clothes and making sure everybody knows the face of my heir." Vallas said. "Stanley would have been a poor substitute."
"He would have been a better one, I am a girl, how are we going to hide that fact from the dress maker while I get my fittings?" Penn asked Vallas who was leading her back to the building where her room was located.
"I am sure you have inventive ways to make sure she doesn't know." Vallas waved Penn concerns away like they were insignificant and didn't have the power to put a stop to their charade even before it began.
"You are right, I do have things to discuss with you. You still haven't told me more about your plans pertaining to me correcting the wrongs. How will I go about that?"
"Not yet." Vallas simply stated.
"I deserve to know." Penn gritted out.
"And you will, when the time is right. For now, enjoy being my heir, get to know your new family. Form bonds and friendships, learn how to fight more and this time like a boy and not a street kid type of manipulation which you just did, build a life here. Before you get to do all those things, you will be ready to progress further." Vallas stated.
Penn stared at him. "No matter how much I hound you, you won't tell me until you deem me okay will you?"
"You can try." Vallas shrugs, I will be happy if you do try, You need to sharpen your interrogation skills but you cannot break the information out of me. Now go get ready, I will be waiting in the meal hall for us to eat and you will be sitting beside me during meals from now on."
Penn nodded as she turned and left Vallas at the doorstep of the house. Vallas moved to another building where he entered a room without knocking. "Leda, how do you think he will do?"
"Very well. You picked a good one Vallas." Leda chuckled as Vallas smiled.
