Beatrice hurried back to the car as she heard Maxwell crying outside.

"Hey, shhh, mummy is here, okay?" she soothed, taking him from Stefan. Stefan silently thanked God. He tried to console the boy, but Maxwell’s cries only grew louder.

"Did the witch hurt you, mummy?" Maxwell asked with worried eyes.

Beatrice gave a small smile and gently rubbed Maxwell’s hair. "She can’t touch mummy, not even a single strand of my hair. Mummy will never allow that," she said softly, but her voice held firm determination.
