Chapter 2 Gripping, Nipping

Chapter 2 Gripping, Nipping

"Why?" I managed to whisper through the pain.

With a scoff, she pushed her partner behind her. Standing before him, she glanced at me uninterestedly. "Seriously asking me that?" she snapped in annoyance.

"You were never a man to me. Initially, I thought you were the one."

"Then-"

"Oh god, you turned out to be nothing like I imagined," she accused. "You're just another wannabe man lacking in relationships, weak to the core. Sex was good, thank you for that. But as an Alpha, you're just pathetic. Your pack is spiraling down into oblivion. I regret ever mating with you."

Melissa showed no remorse as she spat those venomous words at me. Feeling utterly useless and feeble, all I could do was stand there.

I can't help but feel sorry for those who have been deceived by their partners, but little did I know that one day, I would become a victim betrayal myself. She has now chosen to reveal a side of her that I was unaware of, and it cuts deep. The pain is unbearable. I want to scream out, yet that would simply confirm her stance. As I glare at the traitor, he returns my gaze with a smug expression.

"You, betrayer," I snarl, ready to confront him when my mate's words stop me in my tracks.

"I, Melissa Woods, hereby reject Alpha Dane Maximus Arden as my chosen mate and Alpha."

A sharp pain pierces my heart, causing me to collapse in despair on my knees. The need to breathe becomes suffocating as I struggle in vain. She coldly rejected me without a second thought. Blood spills from my mouth onto the ground as excruciating agony overtakes my entire being.

I should have perished before this moment. I should have been spared from witnessing such treachery. Perhaps I should have ended her life instead. With a low growl, I force myself to look up and see her wicked smirk directed at me. "Goodbye, scum," she sneers before revealing a group of rogues emerging from the shadows into the open space.

"We've brought some friends along," she mocks.

Pushing aside the torment in my heart, I let out a howl filled with anguish before transforming into my wolf form. Rage consumes me entirely.

"To hell with you," I bark angrily as I counter the first rogue's assault.

With a swift motion, I sink my teeth into its neck and tear off its head before swiftly moving on to the next foe. They all converge on me simultaneously, yet one by one they fall under my relentless attacks resembling those unleashed upon the initial rogue. Not a single fur on my wolf form is touched by them. Despite the agony inflicted upon me by my mate's betrayal, I continue to battle fiercely.

I am an Alpha - and I refuse to go down without putting up a ferocious fight until the end of time.

Darn it! I was so busy taking down all those jerks that I didn't even see that coward coming.

He snuck up on me, attacking from behind when I least expected it. Biting my shoulder and slashing my leg with his claws. I let out a painful howl as I finished off the last rogue.

"You coward," I growled, leaping at him.

My sharp fangs sank deep into his wolf leg. He cried out in pain, only made me smirk before kicking him, sending him flying to the side. He crashed into a tree trunk hard, bringing it down with him. I growled in triumph as I prepared to finish him off.

As I moved in for the kill, a stab in my abdomen made me let out a painful howl in my wolf form. Suddenly, I shifted back to my human form and fell to my knees.

Looking up, I saw that familiar face again. The angel from my past. I watched her rush to her lover with tears streaming down her face. She helped him up with such care and concern.

She didn't even notice if I was hurt. A tear slipped from my eye as I saw her wrap her arms around him.

"What about him? Is he dead yet?" he asked her.

"He will be once the wolvesbane takes effect," she replied to him.

"Let's get your wounds tended to," she said through sobs as they walked away together without a backward glance. Even on the verge of death, feeling betrayed and shattered by the woman to whom I had pledged myself to be with forever. Deep down, all I wanted was for her to show that care for me just once before I passed away.

"Mel!" I cry out, still hoping to hear her voice reassure me this is all just bad dream.

Tears cloud my vision as I watch them disappear into the dense forest. If love brings this much pain, I vow to myself never to let my feel again.

No one deserves.

I collapse to the ground, lying on my back with a bitter etched on my face. "This is how the Blood Pack Alpha meets his end," I agonize.

But right before darkness consumes me, I see another figure approaching. She's like an angel, disguised under human form.

I let out a bitter laugh and slowly shut my eyes, praying that when I wake up, this nightmare will be over.
