In my past life, I refused to leave the Reyes Family and relinquish the heir position to Regina Reyes. As a result, everyone despised me, blaming me for all of Regina's losses and the years of suffering she endured.
Whether at the company, at home, or even during small gatherings with friends, I could hear them voicing their grievances on behalf of Regina.
They pitied Regina and condemned me for not stepping aside, believing I was utterly unforgivable. However, without me, the Reyes Group would never have become the world-renowned company it is today.
All my hard work and sacrifices were overlooked. They believed the Reyes Group was always strong from the start. They thought that even without me, it would have grown into the massive corporation it is today.
I was painted as a usurper, relegating the true heiress and oblivious to my actual standing.
It wasn't until my deathbed, when Regina came to flaunt her victory, that I learned the truth. My mother and Regina had been after the billion-dollar collaboration project from the beginning. My mother placed Regina by my side to learn my strategies, to plot against me step by step, and to slowly erode my team.
They wanted me isolated and intended to seize everything I had fought so hard for, to ruin my reputation, and leave me destitute.
In the end, I succumbed to their schemes.
I snapped back to reality and looked at my mother.
She couldn’t believe I had given up so easily and eyed me with suspicion. Theo Haynes also looked incredulous.
As for Regina Reyes, she could barely contain her excitement and elation.
She almost demanded to know if I was really giving up but held back when she saw my mother’s expression.
My mother took a step forward, assuming that I, after so much effort to become her recognized heir, would never relinquish the position easily.
I smirked coldly and turned away, ready to leave this suffocating party.
“Miriam Reyes!” my mother suddenly called out.
I paused, a flicker of unrealistic hope in my heart.
Maybe, just maybe, she genuinely cared about me and whether I would be hurt?
But her next words drained all the strength from me.
“Gina has just come home and hasn't received proper training. You can't leave. You need to teach her everything you've learned.”
Her tone was uncompromising, and I knew she would not allow me to resist.
I could no longer maintain my indifferent facade. My expression fell as I turned back, bitter and heartbroken. “Fine, but I will only teach her for one month. After that, I’m leaving.”
As I walked back to my room from the party hall, tears streamed down my face.
In my mother’s heart, Regina Reyes was far more important than I would ever be. The person she valued and cared for the most was always Regina.
Wiping away my tears, I took a deep breath and forced myself not to feel the pain, already formulating my plan.
In a few months, the Reyes Group would face a significant crisis. I would only instruct Regina for one month. After that, I'd leave. How would Regina handle the impending crisis?
