I woke up to a strange sound and the sight of Lyra bent over the earth. For a moment, I thought I was seeing things.

Then she retched again, with a force that made me stand up.

“Hey, are you alright?” I asked, walking up to her.

She straightened, barely able to hold herself. “I think the insects were a bad idea.”

Just then, my stomach rumbled. I could handle a few terrible insects and from the way Aliyah was sleeping soundly, I could tell that she was alright.
