James’s POV

I sat back quietly in the back seat while Mike's gaze remained fixed on the road. I couldn't help but wonder what was going through her mind when I told her that it wasn't a date… at least not yet. Had I acted so affectionately and raised the bar higher than I intended? I exhaled deeply and checked my time.

“I hope it wasn't a waste on your side either,” I cleared my throat, making Mike glance in my direction for the first time since we got to the car.

“He really seemed to be the one.”
