The rain started, I heard it before I saw it, that sudden heavy sound against the windows, and I turned my head toward the glass just as Alpha Zane pushed the office door open and walked back in.

I looked at him, then at the window and back at him.

I picked up my phone.

"The rain started."

My text to speech read it out into the quiet room and he glanced toward the window briefly, then back at whatever expression he was wearing, which was not surprise.

"Yes," he said. "It did." He added calmly.

I looked at the window again, the rain was not polite about it...
