“Faster, Mum! They’re catching up!” Reid’s voice was laced with panic as his little hand clung tightly to mine, his steps quickening to match my frantic pace.  

The sound of boots crunching through dry leaves echoed behind us. My lungs burned, my legs ached, but I didn’t dare stop. Not now.
