Lucien’s name flashed on my phone screen again. I stared at it, my pulse hammering. After everything that had unfolded in the last twenty-four hours, I wasn’t sure if I was ready for another conversation with him. But avoiding him wouldn’t change the truth.

“You need to come to the office,” he said, his tone clipped and urgent. “Now.”
