Chapter 27: The Betrayal Within

I stood frozen, the sound of shattering glass still echoing in my ears. Reid’s scream pierced through my panic, snapping me back to the moment. My heart raced as I spun toward him, my instincts on full alert.  

“Reid!” I called, rushing to his side. He was crouched behind the couch, clutching his stuffed bear like it was a lifeline. His eyes were wide, brimming with tears, but he was unharmed.  

“It’s okay, baby. I’ve got you,” I whispered, pulling him into my arms.  

But it wasn’t okay.
