Before Kate could respond, there was a soft knock at the door. “Come in,” I called, and one of my guards entered, bowing slightly.

“Your Majesty, the council requests your presence. They wish to discuss the next steps regarding the previous meeting.”

I nodded, standing. “Thank you. Tell them I’ll be there shortly.”

The guard bowed again and left, leaving Kate and me alone. I turned to her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. “Rest. I’ll come back as soon as I can.”

She gave me a small smile. “Go show them what you’re made of.”

I returned her smile, though my mind was already racing...
