The room was hot. My chest moved fast as I lay back on the soft sofa, watching him. Every part of me was wide awake, focused entirely on Cole as he stood over me. My mind was completely clear, filled with a dark, heavy tension that made it impossible to think about anything else.

Cole didn't smile. He didn't try to be sweet or soft.

He just looked down at me, looking totally calm and in control. His big hands stayed locked on my hips, fingers holding me tight through my sweatpants so I couldn't slide away.
