"Shh," he whispered, "don't worry. Everything will be alright."

It took her several seconds to realize he was talking to her, and it took another couple minutes for her to register the meaning behind his words. She pulled away slightly and looked up at him.

He looked concerned but at the same time relieved that he had finally gotten her to respond.

She smiled weakly at him. "Thank you."

Jake nodded before kissing her forehead gently.

They remained silent for a few more moments until Jake started to drive back toward his house. She wrapped her fingers around his wrist and tugged lightly at his hand to get his attention....
