For a long while, we sat there in silence. She had stopped sobbing but my hand still stroked her hair, murmuring soft words of comfort into her ears.
I knew I couldn’t erase the pain in her heart or the memories of what she had seen. Most of all, I couldn't mend her shattered innocence but I hoped I could at least provide some measure of solace for her. No matter how small.
Her breathing had evened out, her head was nestled against my chest. As I continued to hold her, my mind raced, thinking of a way to lift her spirits, even if only temporary....
