Lopez's heart pounded as she stared at Adrian, his piercing gaze making it hard for her to think clearly. She knew she had to come up with something fast.

"It's nothing," she stammered, trying to steady her voice. "It…"

“No...it’s not,” Adrian interrupted her, walking closer.

Thinking he wanted to take the envelope from her, she took a few steps backward. That didn’t stop Adrian.
