Chapter 6 PROPHECY OR OMEN?

PROPHECY OR OMEN?

The Blackthorn pack was the lead pack in the quaint town of Dennison. Their family had moved into the area over three decades ago when they didn’t find any other pack in the region and decided to make it their home.

There, they had their children and started to grow into a bigger family than when they had arrived.

This was the pack that the twins belonged to. They had moved from their former place because the seer in their clan had seen a vision that something terrible was going to happen where they were, and the only solution was to move as far away as possible.

They had fought with another pack, and their enemies were planning a war like none that had ever been witnessed in all the clans.

The seer further explained that non-werewolves would be involved in the battle and that things would escalate beyond measure. While the majority of the pack would have preferred to stay back and fight for their land, the chief decided to adhere to what they had heard from the seer, and they moved out of the vicinity.

Finding Dennison felt like they had struck gold. They were the only werewolves in the area and didn’t need to engage in any territorial exchange. They knew there was a pack close by and sent some scouts to determine if they were willing allies or worthy foes.

When the spies returned, they reported that the pack was made up of Betas and Omegas, nothing they needed to worry themselves about.

Living on the outskirts of the town was the Harper pack. They were used to hiding away from the rest of the world. After their family was nearly wiped out by a ruthless pack, they decided to find somewhere they could live without trouble.

Their family had witnessed decades of feuds and had occasionally become victims of war. They weren’t strong enough to fight back, and no matter what they did, the family grew smaller and smaller.

They made the outskirts their home as the remaining members of their pack grew old and stayed in hiding. The strongest Alphas had died, and the only people left were the seers, two Beta wolves, and a bunch of Omegas.

Among this last sect was Ella’s family. Her parents had been killed in the last attack, so she grew up as a child taken care of by everyone else. As time passed, the other werewolves refused to procreate, choosing to end their lineage.

They were tired of being the ones everyone could pick on and decided they were better off not bringing any more offspring into the world. Some moved out of the vicinity and became lone wolves, whose bodies were eventually found lifeless in their wolf form, or they simply disappeared, never to be seen or heard from again.

This went on for a long time until the last seer died after foreseeing not only a coming war but also a union. He warned the clan about a great season of pain that would befall them but also foretold a union between the Harper and Blackthorn packs that could stop this terrible event.

Members of the Harper pack started migrating to Dennison, pledging allegiance to the Blackthorns. This meant they would become lowly members of the pack, but they didn’t mind. As long as it meant they would be safe, they were ready to take the opportunity.

Ella was the last wolf to make this migration. She had stayed back to help with the elderly ones, but when they died, leaving only the last person she had been staying with, she had nowhere to go but the town.

A lone wolf was in more danger than a pack of weak ones.

When she arrived in Dennison with her guardian, they saw the council, pledged their allegiance, and found a house to live in. In the second week of their arrival, her guardian died, leaving her alone. Her only means of survival was to depend on the Blackthorns and other wolves in the pack.

Soon, she realized she would have been better off if she had been left to die alone in the woods, given that her pack was treated as the scum of the earth while they stayed here.

But she and the other members of the pack held onto the prophecy. Being with the Blackthorns meant they could get new mates and bring forth better offspring.

This gave them new hope, and regardless of whatever treatment they received, they stayed put. If this was their only means of survival, they were ready to hold onto it for dear life.
