The huge glass doors of the school building opened and the ominous air that swirled around me became more intense when the silence died and as if on cue, everyone turned— their eyes on me— as anxiety clawed at the back of my neck.

I almost faltered in my steps while I ducked my head, slipping a loose strand of hair behind my ear as their murmur filtered down my ears.
