   “Daniel? Are you there? Open the damn door already, it’s hot as balls out here.”

  

   I banged on the wood one more time, shifting my weight from one foot to the other because my thighs were already sticking together from the walk. No answer. Typical. My brother probably forgot I was coming over or got distracted by whatever dumb shit he does on Fridays. 

  

   I twisted the knob anyway—unlocked, of course—and pushed inside.
