I took a deep breath, squared my shoulders, and stepped inside.
The scent of fresh-baked bread and roasted coffee filled the air, mixing with the faint hum of conversations between staff.
A young hostess glanced up from the podium. "Good morning! How can I help you?"
I smiled—the innocent, harmless kind. "I’m here for the waitress position. I have an interview scheduled."
Her expression brightened. "Oh, yes! Give me a second."
She picked up the phone and spoke in a hushed tone. A moment later, she hung up and gestured toward the back.
