The night air was thick with tension, the docks colder than before. The deal with Sergei had given us a sliver of hope, but something still felt off.
I had been in this game long enough to know when a man like Sergei was holding something back. He had agreed too easily. A man like him never made a deal unless he was already two steps ahead.
And I had a bad feeling that I was already playing into his hands.
Lola walked beside me, her arms crossed against the chill. She hadn’t said much since the meeting. I knew she didn’t trust Sergei. Hell, I didn’t either....
