The moon was high over the Edward pack territory when Nadia finally slipped through the front door. She was carrying a plastic-cased laptop that looked like it had survived several decades of use. It wasa borrowed from Nora, a kind Omega from the neighboring Briggsmith Pack who had moved thererecently. 

"You are late," Estelle said from the small kitchen, her voice weary. "I made dinner." 

"I am so sorry, Mom," Nadia said, her voice soft but hurried. She didn't stop moving toward her bedroom. "I had dinner with a friend. I am not hungry. Please, eat and rest."
