He saw it of course. He walked to me and enfolded me in his arms.

“I’m sure you must think the worst of me,” he said forlornly. “My best friend and I, too much to drink, practically attacking a lone woman?”

“You didn’t!” I said in outrage, defending both him and my cousin. “I let you. I’m as much to blame as you both are.”

“The tres amigos in trouble again?” he questioned using our parents’ favorite term for the three of us.

“Yes,” I answered meekly.

“I don’t think you’re bad Jessie. Tell me though why you did it.”
