Chapter 2 Two

Chapter 2 Two

"Everything looks good," The doctor said as he looked up to me and Ryder, the human. "Did you say you spilled water on him?" This was the tenth time he asked that question. Yes, I counted.

"Yeah, just water," Ryder answered and looked at me. "I told you he would be alright."

I couldn't believe the water bottle guy's name was Ryder. Imagine carrying a child for nine months only to call him freaking Ryder. His last name was quite popular in the USA though. The Wellingtons owned a sneaker company in Miami. The biggest sneaker company in the country. It was a multi-million company and their shoes were sold worldwide. I know about it because I have heard about the Wellington's name multiple times in dad's office. I never bothered to look them up though. But now that I have met their handsome son, I might do a little digging.

"Come on, baby," I grabbed Ryder, my poodle, from the doctor's table and put him on the ground. "Well, he is alright because we brought him to the vet."

Ryder barked to the other Ryder who was paying the doctor's bill. "He said thank you," I translated for him as I picked my baby up.

"So, is that it? Can I go now?" Ryder asked as he opened the door for me so we could exit the office. "Or do you want to grab a bite?"

I shrugged my shoulders as we walked towards his car. I was kinda hungry and Ryder, the human, wasn't really bad company. "We can get something to eat if you want to. Are you going to drive me back to the hotel?"

"That's a stupid question. Don't you think? Why would I leave you and...the dog...stranded?" he opened the car door for me to step in. He drove the latest Mercedes Benz. I also have one like this in New York. I used it for school. I also have a G-wagon, but that's for going out.

"My son," I corrected him. "You could be an ass and tell me to take public transport." I would have probably thrown a tantrum if he would do that. I cannot imagine taking public transport. It's so tacky.

Ryder laughed. "I wouldn't dare tell a Gray to take public transport." He closed the door and walked over to the driver's side. "What do you want to eat?" He asked as he stepped in. He fastened his seatbelt and turned the car on.

"I don't know." I placed Ryder on the ground as I struggled to put my seatbelt on.

"Ice cream? Chocolate cake?" he suggested.

"To much sugar."

"Zucchini, Tofu, Cauliflower?"

"I'm not vegan."

"Steak, Zinger burger, cheesy fries?"

"I'm on a diet."

"What do you want to eat then?" Ryder asked as he drove out of the parking lot. The annoyance was visible in his voice.

"I don't know."

Both Ryders shot me an 'are your for real?' look. I sighed as I leaned back in the passenger seat thinking about what I was craving. "Let's go to Miss Saigon restaurant."

"The Vietnamese place?"

I nodded my head. "Yeah, have you been there before?"

"A couple of times. The food is amazing," he said as we stopped in front of the red light. "Are you traveling alone?" Ryder asked as he turned his head to me, waiting for an answer.

"No, I'm with my friend. Why?" I asked, raising my eyebrows. "I look too young to travel alone?"

He chuckled and nodded his head at me. "Yeah, I bet you're not even eighteen yet."

"I'm seventeen which is basically eighteen," I told him.

"No, it's not," Ryder laughed. "Your parents allow you to travel alone?"

"What's up with all the questions?" I asked annoyed. My parents know that I'm very cautious when it comes to it. They also put me in karate when I was ten and I participated in multiple self-defense classes. "You're not my dad or daddy."

The light turned green. Ryder gripped the steering wheel tightly as he stepped on the gas and continued driving. "Do not use that word around me," he said through gritted teeth, eyes on the road.

"Fine," I rolled my eyes at him. How sensitive. "How old are you?"

"Twenty-one," he answered. "Am I too old for you?"

"Pff, it's just four years. So, you're a college guy huh?"

Ryder nodded his head. "Yes, the guys you saw at the pool are my college buddies."

We arrived at our destination and Ryder parked the car across from the restaurant. "It's not busy today," he remarked.

I looked out of the window and there were indeed not many customers. Good, that means we had the whole place to ourselves.

"Are you going to bring your son too?" Ryder asked as he watched me put Ryder's collar on.

"Of course, you don't leave your child in a car."

We walked towards the restaurant and got greeted by the sweetest Vietnamese lady at the door. She showed us our table and handed us the menu.

After going through the menu the lady came back with two glasses of water. "Are you ready to order?" she asked in a thick Vietnamese accent.

"I will have the beef ceviche and caramelized ribs...oh and a coke please," Ryder said as he closed his menu. The lady wrote his order down.

"And you, miss?" she asked after she was done taking Ryder's order.

"I will have the rice noodle soup with seafood," I told her. "And an apple juice."

"Okay, your order will be out soon."

She walked back to the kitchen and I turned my attention back to Ryder. He was staring at his namesake who was also staring back at him. I couldn't help but giggle. They both looked up at me.

"What?" Ryder asked. The human, not the dog. I would get a heart attack if my poodle suddenly started talking.

"It's just funny how you both stare at each other."

"It's weird," Ryder said, "Like who names their dog Ryder?"

"Who names their child Ryder?"

"Ryder is a perfect name for a baby boy."

"Exactly!"

"A human baby boy." He clarified, taking a sip of his water. "It's going to get confusing."

"It is already confusing. One of you should change your name." I said as I wiped my mouth with a tissue.

"Thank you, that's what I was thinking!" Ryder exclaimed.

I smiled at him, glad that he was on board with my idea. "So, what do you want me to call you?"
