Lola’s POV

I was on my way to the training yard again.

My feet moved out of habit, not purpose. My body was aching, but it was easier to keep punishing myself than sit still long enough to remember how hollow I felt.

That’s when I heard them.

Two younger warriors boys a little older than me, leaning against the outer wall of the weapons hall, whispering just a little too loudly.

“She’s good, sure. But she’s not them.”

“Yeah… not even close. Her mom was leading armies by this age. Her dad tracked and killed the rogue king. Lola? She blushes when Kael walks by.”

“She won’t make it....
