I waited for emotion to lower before I walked toward him. I stretched my hand and offered it to him. “Is Asteroid City near here?”

He sniffed as he accepted my hand and stood up. “Almost.” He averted his look. “Everyone has secret, right?”

I moved my head in An upright down direction. “Ah-huh.”

“Can you promise not to tell anyone what I did today?”

I showed him my palm. “I promise.” This was the only time that I became sincere with him.

We traveled to Asteroid City. My heart was lighter than before. When we arrived in front of it, my feet were stuck on the ground....
