Lisa's POV
"Where am I?" I muffled as my eyes opened up. My vision was very hazy but I saw a manly figure by my side. I felt something on my hands so I guessed it was him. He must have been holding my hands. Who was he?
"You should relax," he said to me, as I tried to sit up. He was right. I was in no condition to sit up. I badly needed some more rest.
"How did I end up here?" I asked myself, trying to recall what just happened. I remembered having breakfast and entering my car. I remembered that as I drove off, my car had a problem and it crashed against a cliff and headed right into the sea. That was the last thing I could recall.
I shut my eyes for a few seconds and opened them up again. This time, I could see better. I saw a tall guy, about 6"4 inches or a bit more, with brown hair and a very muscular frame, standing next to me. His biceps were admirable. I did want to touch them as soon as I laid my eyes on them. He was a good-looking stranger.
"Where am I?" I managed to ask, freeing my left hand from his hold. I didn't appreciate being held by a stranger. I felt it was inappropriate.
"You're in my house," he replied. "I was taking a walk by the sea and I saved you from a ghastly accident. I'm glad you're safe. Unfortunately, the baby was lost."
I couldn't believe my ears. I felt tears flow down my cheeks to the bed. After three years, I finally managed to get pregnant. Yet, I lost it.
"The doctor said that he found an unknown medicine in your bloodstream which prevented you from summoning your wolf," he continued.
"Medicine? I took no medicine at all. I only had breakfast before heading out," I said, quite surprised that he was talking about medicines.
"Did you notice anything strange as you drove?"
"No, I didn't Uhm, yes Yes. I remember now," I stuttered, still struggling a bit to recollect all that happened as I was still a bit lightheaded. "I felt so weak and I couldn't explain why, but I felt it was because I ate too much."
He was silent but his expression said a lot. The narrowing of his eyes and the deep breath he took gave me a feeling that he had something else to say.
"I need to get back to my family. Please, help me," I begged.
"I'm Hugo," he said, stretching forth his hands for a handshake.
"I'm Lisa," I replied, reaching out to shake his hands. I had begun to feel stronger. I was strong enough to sit up.
"I'll help you contact your family," he said. " I promise."
He was a stranger and I didn't know what his intentions were. I just hoped they weren't bad because, at that point, I couldn't defend myself if I tried.
He helped me up and led me to the sitting room which was so large. I had to blink twice to be sure that I wasn't seeing double. The room was massive, almost twice the size of that of my husband. They had to be massively wealthy. Everything about the house pointed to that.
He grabbed the remote at the large centre table and sat on one of the side sofas. I walked across to the longest sofa, just opposite the one he sat on, and sat. There were four big bowls of fruits on the centre table and he motioned to me to pick any fruit of my choice. I took an apple, and without even wondering if it was poisoned, I brought it close to my mouth and had a bite. It was delicious.
I tried to contact my husband by activating the mind link once again, all to no avail. The more I tried, the more I failed. I couldn't tell what prevented me from being able to reach him.
"Don't you think he might have cut off the contact himself? I mean, mind links are always effective unless one party decides to block off any form of contact. He"
"That's not true!" I screamed. I couldn't let him finish. I wasn't going to sit there and watch him say such things about my husband. Johnny loved me; he loved me so much. He had fought for me against all odds to ensure that I was his wife. He challenged his mother on multiple occasions for my sake. How then could he have put off the mind link? It wasn't like we had an issue too. He just got my gifts ready and helped me take them into the car. It was not possible.
"I'm sorry I screamed," I apologised to Hugo. "My husband and I love each other. He couldn't have done something like that."
"Okay, no problem," he said, first shrugging and then raising both hands to indicate that he wasn't going to argue anymore. He laid back on the sofa and turned on the TV.
I looked at the screen and was greatly surprised. I saw Johnny, with Mandy and Mrs Sarah, his mother being interviewed by a reporter. "That's him," I said to Hugo, who suddenly sat up to get a clearer picture of what was going on.
"I really can't believe that my wife is gone," Johnny said, with tears in his eyes. "She had a car accident and fell into the sea. We had no idea that her car was bad. She checked it thoroughly the night before but it was alright. I can't believe she's gone."
Mandy walked across to him and dried his eyes with a white handkerchief before he continued. "We'll be holding a funeral for her, soon, to pay our respects one last time. Lisa may be gone but she'll live with us in our hearts forever"
I was shocked. I couldn't listen to any more of that nonsense! How could he assume that I was dead? What made him give up that easily? Besides, if he was fine, why on Earth was he not responding to my calls? Could it be that Hugo was right?
I had a lot of questions in my head and no answers to any of them. I looked up at Hugo who stared at me with a very sad expression. Something was wrong somehow.
