Escaped.

That single word replayed in my mind repeatedly within a few seconds; each time Kai's voice got louder and louder, creating an echo. The time for me stopped, trapping me in a loop of chills running over my body. My right hand went instinctively to my belly, where life was growing. A vengeful dark witch full of revenge was the last thing I needed.

"Delaney." Nyra shook me, her hands gripping the sides of my shoulders. "I've tried getting your attention for minutes now."
