Court mornings have always been something I disliked—not due to the workload but because they reveal fragments of humanity that many prefer to ignore. Today was more difficult. Today I wasn’t simply representing a client. I was standing up for a girl whose voice trembled every time she attempted to pronounce her doctor’s name.
