Another evening without Matteo in sight for dinner. Not even bothered anymore if he’s eating or not. Haven’t seen him in days so it’s fine. I started picking at my food as I didn’t have much of an appetite.

“So, Aurora, how are you coping in your husband’s absence? I know you both are used to being together.” His father’s voice cut through the clinking of silverware, drawing everyone’s eyes to me. “I’m sorry I stole your husband from you but I have work in Monaco which I can’t go. That’s why he went in my stead.”

I froze, my heart skipping.

Absence? Matteo had left for Monaco?...
