Chapter 3- Beggar or Dancer?

Chapter 3- Beggar or Dancer?

  Isadora pov

My legs dropped me to the next village, to reach north and the next town, I had to swim the long deep lake for miles to reach the deserted town that was ruled by a handsome king. I’d heard a lot about him but I’d never trusted the gossip in our village, they always messed up things. So, swimming was a way to reach the town or climb the mountains that surrounded the town from the three other sides.

I had no talent nor a chance to do this, at least I needed food and more money and to have all of these things means— I needed a longer time.

But the next village wasn’t bad, all I had to do was to disguise, change my look partially by changing my hair color from blond to black, curling my silky hair and the way I used to wear my clothes.

Means, I needed to stop wearing decent villagers' clothes, which was hard because even in this village, most women wore the same garments. Long and not exposing except the neck and the head.

My eyes spotted a few dancers and musicians, they were more like beggars, but the female dancers were covering their mouths with scarfs. The idea popped into my mind. But to do this, I had to be one of them.

I meandered through the crowd, to watch them as others. But I was more studying the way they danced. Striving to learn a few steps fast. I admitted it wasn’t hard since they were shaking their hips. And I’d a big rounded ass that could make hearts shake. The only issue that I grappled with mentally, that I had to wear like them! Exposing most of my body. And that was against my morals. But— I had no choice.

I jumped off my feet rapidly in that big market searching for anyone selling scarves. And yes, I found one. I pulled one gold coin from my pocket. I knew that was too much but I was in a hurry. I asked the old lady, “Please, I need clothes like these dancers and that scarf.”

She inspected me for a second, I guess she wanted to know my size “a stranger? Right?”

To shut her mouth and distract her, I handed her a gold coin “take it.”

The old lady's eyes widened and excitedly grabbed a lot of clothes and a bag and scarf then ushered me inside her small van “you can use the van. Thank you for the gold.”

We used the normal paper currency but gold was very well known in the small villages, we were used to buying and selling the valuable things using gold.

I immediately took off my clothes and threw them away, I wore the dancers half-naked glittering clothes and wrapped my nose and my mouth with the red scarf. I haven't found the time yet to dye my hair. But once I’d start working with this show-team of dancers and musicians, I’d do it.

I ran after thanking the old lady and pushed my body deep in the crowd until the eyes turned into me. The dancers looked more irritated but I came close to one of them and asked politely “please let me join all of you. Please.” I begged in a whispering tone and she gladly made a circle for me and gestured to me “show us first. Let the audience vote.”

And they started drumming, I could swear, I only shook my ass right and left with silly twirls around and it worked.

Everyone clapped for me. I was shivering already, scared that anyone might figure out that I was running from something. They welcomed me among them, but most importantly they didn’t ask many questions. They only asked me “what’s your name?”

“Isadora.” That's what I had only said.

They all smiled at each other and nodded agreeing “okay, you’re in now.”

The tears flowed to my cheeks, but I wiped it instantly. I realized later after working with them for a whole year. Most of them used to be beggars, orphans and thieves and one of them used to sell her body for only late-night meals. Their lives were nothing but miserable like mine.

But we all did it! Our show became the most known in the village. We had our own small house attached to it, a small tint and ten hectares of land to plant vegetables. We were satisfied with this.

But I still wanted to get out of the village. I was fortunate to not be caught by anyone from my old village. Particularly when a lot of people start to visit the village, especially for the show.

I ached to leave them and go to the town on my own. Being in a deserted place ruled by a king was what I covered for. I wanted to be far away from any officer. We didn’t have much in such small villages, but the sheriff came around most of the time. Always searching for a new criminal to put him into jail.

But this show was different before it even began— a well, decent man, looked so royal surrounded by cars and soldiers  “the king! Long live the king, Are making a huge celebration and will give a huge reward, a bag of gold and money for the dance show that will win.”

My eyes widened as I immediately dared to ask “sorry, but may I ask, which king? Do you mean the next town king between the hills and mountains?”

One of them stepped closer and nodded “yes, the king Ambrus kingdom.”

I smiled excitedly and told the other dancers immediately “let’s go!”

They all dropped their jaws in a thunderstruck. “Are you insane?”

  “Did you lose your mind?”

“Do you know the kingdom name?”

  “No way!”

I tried my best to convince them with only one word “bag of gold and money!”

And yes, poor dancers like them, would never say no to such a reward. They had nothing to lose.

But truly, I had! I didn’t notice that.
